International Inclusive Finance Workshop held at XLRI

The 3rd International workshop in Inclusive Finance was organized at XLRI, Jamshedpur from 31st October to 2nd November 2014. The workshop spread over 3 days was inaugurated in the presence of Fr. E. Abraham S.J. (Director of XLRI), Mr. B Sriram (MD, SBI), Mr. Vijay Mahajan (Founder CEO, BASIX ) and Dr. H. K. Pradhan, (Professor of Finance and Economics at XLRI Jamshedpur) on the 31st October 2014 at the XLRI Jamshepur Campus.

Innovations4Impact Award & Workshop

As part of the Innovations4Impact Award, presentations were give by 7 pre-selected social entrepreneurs from the inclusive finance space. These entrepreneurs shared their experiences in what it takes to build a successful venture from scratch which caters to the population living at the bottom of the pyramid.

Some of the companies that took part in the workshop were Bandhan Financial Services, VimoSEWA, Rang De, Basix etc

XLRI-Citi Financial Inclusion Challenge

The XLRI-Citi Financial Inclusion Challenge aimed at students of B-Schools saw large scale participation. 11 finalists from top B-Schools of India showcased their ideas through a presentation to an elite panel of judges. The Team from IRMA was declared the final winner.

Commenting on the competition, Dr HK Pradhan said “Our goal was to engage students to develop customer centric approach and attitudinal changes that are needed for the financial service providers, and design stronger client protection principles embodying ethical guidelines while dealing with vulnerable clients, and how to provide consumers of financial products with adequate information, thereby enabling prudent behavior, without any hidden costs or a false promise or deceive, and how to educate clients to undertake judicious financial decisions to ensure future financial security”

Along with the above workshop and competition, several panel discussion and plenary sessions were held which had speakers like Dr. Jean Dreze (Development Economist & Professor, DSE ), Mr. Aloysius P Fernandez (Chairperson, NABFINS), Dr. Alok Misra (CEO, MCRIL), Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh (Chairman and MD, Bandhan Financial Services Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. Rangan Vardhan (CEO, MicroGraam).

Several academicians and development finance practitioners from India and abroad shared their latest research findings on inclusive finance at the workshop. The Inclusive finance workshop concluded with a “Doctoral Colloquium” on the final day where researchers showcased their ongoing research on inclusive finance.
