India Likely to Invest 1 Trillion Rupees in Renewable Energy by 2012

NEW DELHI — India expects 1 trillion rupees ($21 billion) of investments over a five-year period ending March 2012 for renewable-power generation, the chairman of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. said Monday.

“An investment of 150 billion rupees has already been made in the first two years of the five-year plan period that runs from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2012,” Debashish Majumdar told reporters.

Moser Baer India building Worlds largest solar power project in Chandrapur,Maharashtra

NAGPUR: Moser Baer India, with business interest in optical storage media, is developing a 1 MW solar power project in Chandrapur district.

When completed, it will be one of the largest solar projects in the world using the latest thin film technology, the company said. Thin films improve the efficiency with which solar cells convert sunlight into electricity.
