SBI (ShoreBank International Ltd.) last week announced that Triodos Ventures BV, the innovative arm of the Triodos group of companies, has become the anchor shareholder of SBI. With an initial investment from Triodos Ventures BV, SBI will strengthen its position as a leading international advisory firm in the inclusive finance industry. Together, Triodos Ventures BV and SBI management intend to welcome several other like-minded investors during the course of 2011 to further bolster the international capital base of the company.
SBI was founded in 1988 by ShoreBank Corporation as a triple-bottom-line advisory firm dedicated to designing and delivering inclusive finance products and services to financial institutions and their funders globally. Over the years, the company has grown to more than 100 dedicated professionals working with more than 200 financial institutions, with a geographic reach across 75 countries and a robust range of interventions dedicated to building a more inclusive global financial services industry.
With Triodos as an anchor investor, SBI will benefit from Triodos Ventures BV’s commitment to a set of shared mission and values and extensive triple bottom-line credentials, and access to impactful collaboration opportunities within the Triodos group. In addition, SBI will expand its geographic footprint.
“This is a strategic investment for Triodos where we see great potential for synergistic collaboration in contributing to a value-driven inclusive global financial services industry” said Marilou van Golstein Brouwers, Managing Director of Triodos Investment Management BV.
