Narendra Modi on PMJDY
At the launch function , the PM delivered an impromptu speech on the state of financial inclusion in India and how the Pradhanmantri Jandhan Yojana will benefit the country. Recalling the Nationalization of Private Banks by India’s then prime minister Indira Gandhi , he said that nationalization had failed to achieve it’s objective of bringing financially excluded people into the banking system, hence even 68 years after independence not even 68% of India’s population has access to a savings bank account.
Narrating an incident from his life, Narendra Modi said that when he was a student , officials from Dena Bank had come to his village asking students to open a Bank Account , so Narendra Modi also opened a bank account. Since he was from a financially weak background he was unable to save money. So the bank khata remained inactive for a long time and bank officials began to search for him so that they can close the bank account.
