The Unique Identification Number or Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit number which will soon be issued to all eligible Indian Citizens and will be linked to the resident’s demographic and biometric information. The number (referred to until now as the ‘UID’) has been named Aadhaar, which translates into ‘foundation’, or ‘support’.
The government of India recently crossed 100,000 Aadhaar enrollments within a few months of it’s launch and it plans to issue the Aadhaar unique id to more than 600 million Indian citizens over the next five years.
Some months ago Aadhaar released a report that provides guidelines on how organisations and companies will be able to use Aadhaar for making micro payments and what will be benefits for stakeholders . The report also lays down guidelines for the pricing of the various micro payment and withdrawal services that can be done using the Aadhaar UID.
