Grameen Bank’s entry in Simpsons marks microfinance’s entry into the pop culture arena
Bangladesh’s microfinance pioneer and founder of Grameen Bank Mohammed Yunus is all set to star in a special episode of hit American TV series The Simpsons, Grameen bank officials said here on Monday.
Mohammed Yunus’s office said in a statement that one episode of the Simpsons to be telecast in October would focus on Grameen Bank’s microfinance work in Bangladesh.Grameen Bank’s work has helped lift millions of people out of poverty in Bangladesh and across the globe.
“ The recording of Professor Yunus’s voice has already been done and the episode is ready to go on air,” it said, adding that Yeardley Smith who voices Lisa’s character in the serial was currently in Dhaka.
Yeardley Smith has been one of microfinance’s most generous and visionary supporters with a combined donation of $1.14 million to Grameen Foundation and another Haitian microfinance institution.
