Dr Vikram Akula's soundbyte on the Finance Budget

Although this Budget is generally positive for the poor, we do have some concerns. The emphasis on self-help groups is important to rural India. But we believe that private MFIs have demonstrated that they can serve poor borrowers more efficiently than the self-help group bank linkage model. So it would have been good to see an emphasis on stimulating private sector microfinance institutions (MFIs) in addition to the self-help group bank linkage approach.-
