Report by Sanjaya Samal, Bhubaneswar : Adhikar, a State-level N.G.O, has disbursed about 110 crore rupees to seventy thousand poor women beneficiaries through its microfinance activities during last five years. This organization has also provided around 6 crore rupees as house repair loan to three thousand BPL category families within a span of ten months.
The organization has started its microfinance activities since May 2004 and within five years Adhikar has spread its network in 13 districts covering around 70 thousand beneficiaries. Like wise, the house repair loan scheme of the organization has been operationalised only in last Novemebr.
The organization has provided 25 thousand rupees to each of its 30 thousand beneficiaries residing in Bhanjanagar, Balugaon, Bolagir, Choudwar, Chhatia, Itamati, Jatani, Khandapada, Nirakarpur, Pipili, Puri, Ranpur, Sakhigopal, Sorana, Sahid Nagar, Samantarapur, Damana and Dumuduma of Bhubaneswar city within a span of 10 months.
Md.Amin, the CEO of Adhikar, has said, we have tried our best to encompass the poor sections of the society into the told of our microfinance activities because these categories of people do not come under the ambit of banking services. In order to carter to their financial needs we are providing them small loans through our microfinance activities.
Adhikar has also marked its presence felt in money –remittance activities. As the only NGO in the entire country to enter into the activities of money remittance, it is fighting with the government of India quite for some time to accord legal sanction to this activity. Through money remittance activities, Adhikar is serving lakhs of oriya migrant workers residing in Gujrat and Maharastra to a great extent.
Besides, microfinance, house repair loan, money remittance activities Adhikar is also providing legal help to the distressed poor families through its legal council centers.
